THE ART OF ACTING

Actor Training Course

31 October – 4 November, 2022

Acting and its art has always been at the heart of Tim Supple’s theatre work and it forms the essence of his approach to directing and teaching over the past four decades. The Art of Acting course is a distillation of Tim’s work – influenced by methods, theatre traditions and cultures around the world. Expect a fresh approach to text work, character development and collaboration with fellow actors: a honing of the actor’s art in preparation and performance.

The course is for trained or experienced actors.  It is open to all actors whatever their first language or working knowledge of English. The course will accommodate 12 actors.

The Art of Acting is for actors looking for:

  • A deeper self-awareness of their own stage of development.
  • A challenge to their flexibility and agility of work.
  • Focused time to refresh and refine their understanding and confidence with different methods and techniques.
  • A practical process for future work.
  • A variety of techniques for audition, rehearsal and performance.

Tim has directed, run workshops for professional actors, and taught in acting schools and universities internationally.  His directing and teaching are influenced by his travels:  Shakespeare and UK theatre; Stanislavski, the Moscow Art Theatre and the adaptation of the method in the US; Brecht and contemporary German theatre; Commedia dell’Arte, Dario Fo and Jacque Lecoq; Indian classical and folk theatre; narrative theatre traditions in Arabic and Iranian performance; formal and contemporary traditions in Japan and China. The result is an open, integrated and agile approach to working with actors from a variety of theatre traditions, cultures, native languages, and with a wide range of English-speaking abilities.
